To All Growing Communities Members,

If you are a member of the veg scheme, a member of staff or a board director, then that means you!

As a member of the organisation, you have the right to vote for and indeed stand to be on our board of directors – a group of committed volunteers who meet at least every quarter and who have overall legal responsibility for our work.

Election of board members takes place at our Annual General Meeting (AGM), where the accounts are presented and other official business is conducted.

This will take place electronically/via email this year, as it did last year, to make it more accessible for maximum participation from members.

Growing Communities AGM

This year, with the approval of the board of directors and in line with our memorandum and articles of association, we will conduct the majority of AGM business by email. For the record, the nominal date for the AGM will be recorded as noon on Friday 1st February 2024, but we will not run an event for the business matters. Papers will be circulated for the AGM by Thursday 11th January 2024 and will include our annual report, information about any candidates standing for election and details about how to vote.

Standing for the board

We are not actively seeking nominations to stand for the board of directors.

However, we would be interested in hearing from people with a strong finance background to work alongside our current treasurer.

We acknowledge that the environmental sector is less accessible to people from minority backgrounds and we’re committed to doing what we can to correct this. We especially want to hear from you if you don’t see yourself represented very often in the environmental or sustainable food sectors.

Please note, you cannot be a board member and a paid member of staff of Growing Communities at the same time.

How to apply

If you are interested in joining the board, please complete and return the nomination form below. You are also welcome to email Sarah Havard – the chair of the board – if you’d like to talk anything through before standing.

The closing date for nominations is noon on Monday 8 January 2024.
